Biography of Anne Boleyn

She decided that she would not give the king the chance to dispose of her, so she tantalized the king by holding her affections for him. She would not give into to him or his love until he would divorce his wife and she be made queen. King Henry VIII was so in captivated by Anne, that in 1527 he started seeking an annulment of his marriage to Catherine, so he could be able to marry Anne and hopefully have a son that Catherine could not give him.
King Henry VIII believed that his divorce to Catherine would be easy and swift, but it was a difficult matter and the start of the English Reformation. Henry VIII and the England nation were considered to Roman Catholic and the head of their church was the pope who was based in Rome. Divorce was not accepted by the Catholic faith so Henry VIII had to ask the pope for a papal dispensation, but it seemed everything was working against him. When Henry married his first wife Catherine he had to get a special papal dispensation to marry her because she was married to his late brother Arthur because Catholics believe that marrying the wife of one's brother was like incest. Pope Clement VII was not willing to say that Henry's first marriage to Catherine was an error, so he would not grant King Henry VIII the divorce he wanted so badly.
Though it might not have been her intentions, according to historian Allison Weir "Anne Boleyn was the catalyst for the English Reformation." When Pope Clement VII denied Henry VIII the divorce he desired so badly he came up with another plan. Henry VIII decided to break away from the Catholic Church and he and Parliament passed the Act of Supremacy which declared the king as the head of the Church of England. Anne was one of many that inspired the king to separate himself from the catholic faith. She gave him a book called On the Obedience of a Christian Man and How Christian Rulers Ought to Govern by William Tyndale.
