They were tricked into believing they would finally be considered as potential parents for a child only to find out it was a scam, bashing their hopes and dreams. Many gay couples, as George and Lord, start to believe there is something wrong with them as they are not entitled to the right of adoption and are often times humiliated. Gay couples are human beings with an equal desire to have children, and can give an equal amount of love to a child. Many religious claims are based on the idea of God creating Adam and Eve, therefore relationships should be between a man and a women. As Rachel states, there is "a lingering problem of a culture long imbued with the belief need the complementary roles that mothers and fathers provide" (3). It is 2015 and times are changing. Today single parents, both woman and men, are raising their children on their own, proving two men or two woman can do an equal job of parenting, if not better. Adoption agencies are waiting for the "perfect" mother and father couple to come and adopt these children while there are already couples who want to and are most of the time, not taken into consideration.
There are far more straight couples adopting children rather than gay couples due to restrictions against the gay community. Disallowing gay couples the right to adopt is a form of discrimination and many act as if gay adoption is not righteous. What is not righteous is prohibiting a couple to have the happiness and joy which a child brings. The Catholic Church is one of the major opponents against same-sex adoption. For example Catholic Charities USA "shut down its state-supported foster care and adoption programs in Illinois in 2011 rather than comply with a newly passed state law prohibiting bias against the gay community in the placement of children" (Johnson 4). The Catholic Church is one of the institution which funds and leads adopting agencies and is not willing to cooperate with gay adoption which keeps several gay couples without children and many children without a home.
