The Benefits of Technology in Education

If such findings are true, parents and teachers should encourage the usage.
Students are not the only ones that crave technology; teachers love it, too. Devices assist them with everyday classroom tasks such as smart boards, projectors, and software programs for making learning easy and fun. Teachers also have access to educational games and videos so students may better understand the subject being taught. Some examples of this may include Brainpop or Discovery Education; these websites provide informational videos on a variety information that can be directed towards elementary students to high schoolers. Educators have access to virtually attend website seminars, or webinars, hosted by museums or other educational institutions. NASA, for instance, offers a program that allows students to talk to astronauts in space. Though older generations argue that this excessive amount of technology hinders the students' capabilities to learn, technology is here to stay because it is the future. Thus, strong research bases support the conclusion that technology can enhance all aspects of literacy development.
The positive advancements of technology cannot be denied, but like any other advancement or improvement, critics manage to find negativity. According to the National School Boards Association, "Students who are exposed to a high volume of technology perform as well as expected on standardized test, however, technology can potentially do students a disservice if used inappropriately" (Klaus). Though students have easy access to Internet though smart phones while in class, they are extremely distracted from what is actually being taught. They may be playing their games or going on social networking sites instead of paying attention to the teacher. Moreover, when students are searching for answers, they may find answers to questions and copy them down word for word; they are simply restating information rather than learning the concepts or ideas.
