"Let us tell an old story anew and we will see how well you know it," says the narrator as the retelling of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent, begins. In the movie Maleficent, Maleficent, who is played by Angelina Jolie, starts out as an gorgeous winged fairy who falls for a human by the name of Stefan, who betrays her to become king by taking her most prized possession, her wings. To get revenge she curses his first born child, Aurora. He sends Aurora away to keep her safe until he can stop the curse. Maleficent watches over her as she grows, beginning to love little Aurora and decides that she wants to reverse the curse. When the day came Aurora pricked her finger and falls into a deep sleep that only true love can break, just like the original movie. In the original movie she is awakened by prince charming but in the new movie, the true love actually comes from the one that cursed her, Maleficent. This is a great Disney movie where they go outside the box and add twists and turns. In my opinion this is one of the best movies of 2014. There are many elements that can support my opinion. According to a Website called Top 5 Films there are five elements that make a good movie. These elements include music, a storyline, cinematography, acting and story. .
Let's start with music, which sets the tone for a lot of things in movies. It helps tell whether it's a sad or happy moment. For this movie the music was composed by James Newton Howard. The movie opens with a song called "Maleficent Suite." The song starts out dark and scary but gradually becomes more peaceful. In an article By James Southall he states, "pressure builds and builds before being gloriously released as a truly spectacular melody which soars with considerable power and glory about four minutes into the cue" – this keeps building even further, reaching a heavenly pinnacle. This song sets the tone of the movie for the narrator and makes the story look and sound more interesting.
