Although she would age and her looks would change, he would still love her the same as when she was young. This poem is based on love, a common factor within poetry. .
Irish and Poetry Stereotypes.
Stereotypes are given for many different cultures and communities. According to Sharp (2008), Irish decedents were often thought of as being ape like. They were not thought of as equals by other Europeans. This negative stereotype is compared to the negative stereotypes that were given to Africans in earlier decades. While many different cultures have stereotypes, so does the literature that stems from these cultures.
Poetry is commonly thought of as "lovey" or "girly". Walton (2008) writes about how poetry is often looked over in high school and not given enough care for people to really read into what an author is trying to portray. Yeats poem really takes on this stereotype. While it focuses around love, there is a deeper meaning to the poem. It takes a lover of poetry to naturally look within the poem to find the hidden meanings. Poetry is one form of literature that takes on different meaning to different people, fantasy often takes a deeper look and open mind to form an understanding as well. .
Fantasy Stereotypes .
Fantasy is based around a world that may not exist, but authors focus on bringing a reality to the literature they write. Boughan (2013) writes about the gender stereotypes that exist within the fantasy world of literature. Females take on a very different role within fantasy literature. Women are often portrayed as thin, beautiful, powerful, and dangerous in fantasy literature. These stereotypes exist in many different genre of literature, but fantasy brings them to a whole new level. In fantasy literature these stereotypes exist for the heroin or the villain. Either one is labeled and viewed as a powerful, gorgeous woman. These stereotypes are common in fantasy and are part of American fantasy writing.
