Description of Topic: Should the Bible be used as a text of reference in an educational setting? Some would say that the Bible is an acceptable text to use in the classroom, while others would argue that the separation of church and state applies to the classroom as well. This essay will bring to light the numerous reasons why the Bible should be referenced and used in an education setting in an education setting. It will also bring to light the disadvantages that walk hand-in-hand with not allowing the Bible to be referenced or used. This essay's primary focus will be to show why the Bible is a credible text that should continue to be used in educational settings for the continued benefit of further learning for the student.
II. Academic Context.
In this essay, I will discuss why the Bible should be used in schools as a credible text that can be referenced by students. I will discuss why not allowing it to be used in schools is to deny students equal access to all possible resources for historical information. Also, it would deprive the students knowledge about the influence upon the founding of our country, and the founding of many other important things throughout history. I plan on referencing multiple studies, which will show that educators believe that it is good to reference all texts, not just the most popular. Without the knowledge that comes from the Bible allowing them to view other literary works, how are students supposed to view all options when reaching knowledgeable conclusions about what they read and how to apply them.
III. Rationale for Research.
People can argue about authenticity of the content of the Bible, but what cannot be argued is the influence the text has had on all of history. In courts, testimonies are sworn upon the Bible, the pledge of allegiance makes reference to the Bible, and constitution of America mirrors the laws in the Bible. All of these important parts of what makes America so unique in the world are based upon the historical authority and authenticity of this one book.
