Margaret Thatcher and the British Electorate

Even if it was one of the three superpowers with the United States and URSS, the war has also affected this country who will take a lot of time to fix it. Indeed, it would have been necessary to wait almost thirty five years to see things starting to change. During this time, the government seemed to be unable to do anything as both, left and right, were successively at the head of the country and made mistakes while they tried to reverse the economy decline. In fact both parties were at the head of the country in turns because every time something went wrong with their policy. According to Denis Kavanagh (2011), it seemed that Britain "was ungovernable and that no government had an answer to inflation." And this clearly "destroyed the government's reputation." Indeed it has been a while since the country suffered a crisis and in spite of the change of government, the situation did not get better. .
Looking at what has been down through the past, people thought that the Labour party was able to do something "but in the event proved quite incapable of dealing with it." (Hall and Jacques, 1983) and that is why people began to get angry against their own government who failed ruling the country. In fact it was not only an economic matter but also a social one. The United Kingdom just came out from the war and was facing a huge question of identity regarding its political system and the nation itself. A student movement took place and the racialism increased which has not helped. Indeed even a Communist Party has been given birth. The working class started to react and to show some dissatisfaction against the restriction of wages and the trade union legislation but also against the new strategies employed by the two major parties such as new immigration laws, police reform, the restructuration of the health service and a lot more. The working class was angry and felt in danger and these struggles separated a bit more the government from the people instead of uniting them so in the 1970s "British politics was characterized by a certain impasse.
