Jesus spoke of his nearing death and said that he would rise again. Within hours after a celebration with his disciples Jesus was brought before a council of Jewish leaders and accused of blasphemy. He was later crucified. (Brodd 405) Jesus was put to rest in a tomb. Later two women went to Jesus's tomb, to find that Jesus was not there. When they arrived inside the tomb, they came across an angel, who spoke to them. The angel said, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen." (Mathew 28:5) .
The gospel's revealed their understanding of the kind of messiah Jesus was to be; a son of God who was filled with the spirit of God and was sent to the earth so he could suffer for the sins of others. Christians believe Jesus died for our sins. And it is through sin that evil in all its forms, becomes a reality in the world. Christian's see Christ`s suffering as a supreme proof of God's grace for the sake of humanity. They believe that worst of all, sin separates humanity from God. It is only through salvation from sin that they restore the original relationship with God which they find to be their true place, purpose, and fulfillment. The best way to rise above sin is to be loving, humble, generous, and righteous. (Brodd 410) One of the more important features of the practicing Christian is the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are considered to be the law. Two of the more important commandants is that of what Jesus said "you shall love the lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it; you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."(Mathew 22:37)All of the commandants are important to any modern day Christian. Another important feature of independent Christians is the act of prayer.
