With the acceleration of global climate change and urbanization, natural disasters are becoming a serious challenge faced by people through social and economic development. Big cities which are the main place with a highly concentrated population and economic development have not escape this disaster therefore the harm and losses caused by natural disasters is huge. Flooding is one of the most dangerous natural disasters which have caused a wide range damages at different level. My essay will first discus what is a flood and it will be followed by the causes of flood and finally its consequences.
Flooding can be described in different ways but a common definition of flooding is too much water at the inappropriate place. Another, more integrated definition of flooding is "a ordinary and temporary situation of partial or complete inundation of commonly dry land areas from spills over of inland or caudal waters from the different and fast accumulation or runoff of surface waters from any source" (Applying Geoscience to Australia's Most Important Challenges, Australian Government Geoscience). Flooding can have both active and passive impacts. They can be beneficial for human and ecological systems martyrdom from drought prolongation, on the other hand it is also estimated to be the world by very expansive natural tragedy.
The causes of flooding can be divided into natural factors and man-made factors. It occurs most commonly from heavy rainfall when natural watercourses do not have the capacity to convey excess water. According to Morita M, she points out that global warming will change the future rainfall patterns. However, floods are not always caused by torrential rain. They can also consequence from other situation specifically in coastal areas where inundation can be caused by a storm surge associated with a tropical cyclone, a tsunami or a spring tide simultaneous with higher than the levers of simple river.
