Although human and animal skin have similar characteristics, they are still very different. For example, the skin of a dog is around 4 cells thick, while a human's is at least 10-15. This difference, along with others, make us question if animals are the right representation for humans. Difference in skin does not lead to accurate results, therefore the experimental process in flawed. Inaccurate data makes these tests torture and not science. .
Cosmetic testing on animals is cruel and inhumane. One of the experiments used in animal testing is the removal of fetuses from pregnant animals. These animals are dissected while still alive, given no form of pain relief, and then disposed of. Scientists perform this experiment on chimpanzees because their fetuses are closest to a human's. They also blind rabbits and beagles with chemicals because their eyes closely resemble humans. If companies and experimenters test on animals because they are enough like us to provide accurate results, then they should realize that animals are, indeed, like us and do not deserve to suffer the way we would if we were in their position. Some then argue that humans and animals are significantly different in the way that they perceive pain and their psychological reactions. If that is true, then how effective is the use of animal testing to understand the human body? It does not make sense that some continue to deny that animals do not deserve rights because they are not like humans, when that is the main reason that companies test on them. The reason behind why companies continue to spend millions of dollars on animal testing when there are cheaper, more accurate alternatives is hard to understand. The animal tests are unreliable and just result in the killing of innocent animals. Killing an innocent life that does not have a voice is inhumane and is a reason why animal testing should be illegal.
Animal experimentation in the cosmetic industry is not only unnecessary for the testing of a product's ingredients, but also extremely expensive.
