Good morning respected teacher and fellow students, I am here to talk to you about my opinion on the abuse of modern technology. .
Have you ever bumped into something or someone because you were too engaged on a game you were playing on your phone or because you got a text that you couldn't help but reply to? I have done this about a billion times and never learnt from the humiliation but this just proves that people now a day are often way too engrossed in their phones and other devices. According to the 'Infographic: 2013 Mobile Growth Statistics', "91% of all people on earth have a mobile phone" If you look around you during anytime after school, you can notice that many people are engrossed in their devices while simply walking down the street or unfortunately, even while driving. Most accidents are caused by people using their devices while driving from using things like their built-in GPS' or to check to latest buzz on Facebook. With this in mind, are we as a society taking our lives for granted? .
Ever been in a situation where you have had an important assignment due the next school day but your phone, laptop or whatever it is you use just screamed, "use me"? I cannot emphasize enough on the number of times that situations like this have come across me. Modern technology often leads us to things like procrastination, which is not such a great word you would want to associate with your school life, but it happens. If you really think about it, technology tends to make us much more lazier! Based on the 'Mobile Social Work' website, "81% of youth under 25 sleep with their phone next to them on the bed" and "74% reach for their smartphones immediately after waking up" This is something that I can totally relate to. My addiction to using my mobile device has gone so far to the point where I cannot even think about living without a phone.
