What is community immersion? Why do we need to perform this kind of activity? Are there benefits we can get while conducting community immersion? These are just some of the many questions that were being answered in the subject National Service Training Program 2 (NSTP 2) as the second semester of the school year has started. Mr. Julius Delos Trinos, our NSTP 2 adviser started discussing the overview in community immersion. He defines the meaning of community immersion as an introduction to the subject. He said, as far as is can remember, community immersion is one important requirement of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) prescribed to students, male and female alike, in private and public higher education institutions and technical-vocational schools as it is said in RA 9163, Sec. 7. As the days gone by, we bought a reference book to help us to understand more what the subject was all about, especially the topic about community immersion. I have learned that community immersion is an approach of developing among the NSTP student-trainees, the concept of service and empowerment as they reach out to deprived, depressed and under privileged communities and marginalized segments of the society. We also have discussed the objectives of community immersion.
As the time goes by, we have learned a lot what community immersion was and know about the community and its elements. The things you should do and should not do were also being discussed. Discipline is a must while having a community immersion and it should be observed before, during and after immersing. There was once a situational question on one of the worksheet we have answered where in it asked for what would you do if this and that happens. Just some situational questions. The discussion continues as days passes by. Until Mr. Delos Trinos announced to us that we will be having a mobilization in Mt. Makiling. It was a two days and one night mobilization.
