The government wants originality to disappear because when someone thinks for themselves they are often questioning things and questioning could lead to a rebel, who could corrupt society, an example of this is when the director says "It is better that one should suffer than that many should be corrupted. Consider the matter dispassionately, Mr. Foster, and you will see that no offense is so heinous as unorthodoxy of behavior. Murder kills only the individual – and, after all, what is an individual?"(Huxley, 148).The first part of the quote is saying that the rebellion should suffer instead of corrupting the minds of others. The director also saying that being rebellious is an unknown behavior because after all if you go mad and crazy you are killing yourself but then he ends the remarks of what is an individual meaning that nothing could corrupt the minds of others in this society because they are zombies.
Knowledge is what makes people be curious think out of the box the way we think discrete's who we are. Books and flowers are equivalent to knowledge and nature. Books are bad because they teach people things that the government does not want them learning about example, God, marriage and parents etc. Flowers are bed because they represent curiosity the love of nature means that you want to investigate more when you should be really staying in you workplace. There are two example for this one is when one of the students said, "He could see quite well why you couldn't have lower-caste people wasting the community's time over books and that there was always the risk of their reading something which might undesirably decondition one of their reflexes" (page 22) The meaning of this quote is that well the boy is clearly desensitized by books and is conditioned to think that books are bad and a waste of time, he thinks that being unconditioned is horrible and no one questions why because everyone is doped up on soma.
