The story 'Ser Cepperello' was taken from the first tale of 'The Decameron.' Ser Cepparello is also known as Ciapelletto who was a wicked man. Musciatto Franzesi has hired him to handle his business management which had spread far in many regions. He was staying at the house of two Florentine brothers. He became ill there. The brothers became fearful of the impact that if he would die at their home without the last rites, it would be like a sin so they decided to go in search for a friar. The brothers called a friar from the convent near the house in order to hear the wicked man's confession and to grant him his last rites. Ciappelletto started telling his lies related to his life. His lies made him a pious person, but he was pretending to cringe over his sins. The friar believed him and preached a sermon on his afterlife. The people of the town who heard about the sermon believed that he was a pious man and revered Ciapelletto as a saint after his death. .
This story was a mysterious work of Panfilo. The most interesting part in this story was human intellect had been predicted with twisting and turning of the improbable i.e. the sainthood of Cepparello. The purpose of this story was that there were hidden workings in divine and fate will with the mistaken notions in humanity. Elements like friar believing on his lies and becoming saint after his death, made it well-rendered from the reader's point-of-view. Ser Ciappelletto was the worst man ever on Earth and he was vulnerable to the community. He was a skilled liar and such people have no right to be saints and to be remembered after their death. In short, the scoundrel managed to be a virtuous man during his last days of life. He was remembered as Saint Ciappelletto after his death. People from all over the place came to him and prayed for their favors because they believed in him and his miracles. .
