The Problem of Human Trafficking

Human trafficking has been going on since the beginning of time, all throughout the globe. Two of the major sex trafficking places in the United States are San Bernardino, California and Las Vegas, Nevada. San Bernardino District Attorney, Michael Ramos stated " We consider it a crime in our nation, state and county and we're going to hold people responsible for committing this crime" (Lucia). Authorities take human trafficking very serious in this county. In Las Vegas, the concern is quite huge, and it's reported that "On average, 50 percent of all juvenile sex trafficking victims police made contact with were from Nevada" (Valley). However, Human Trafficking is not just a problem in America; it is around in many countries. This is a big problem in other nations. For instance, South Africa's citizens are affected by this issue. It is stated that "In South Africa, host of this year's World Cup, thousands of women and girls are held as modern-day slaves" (Skinner). Even though it is a huge problem in South Africa, there are many other places where it is more out of control. The Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore reported that there is no place in the world that is clear from human trafficking. South Asia, Southeast Asia and Eastern and Southern Europe are the "epicenters" of human trafficking, or where it is the most frequent and likely to happen. More people would be more cautious of this if they knew where it was happening, and clearly it's everywhere. .
Lastly, the main concern people should have about this issue is what they can do to stop it. The problem is so huge that a couple hundred people knowing about it won't do much. It is stated that "During our short existence we have founded that one of the biggest ingredients to anti-trafficking efforts is a lack of knowledge of understanding the issue" (Dearnley).
