The order of succession from the Presidency begins with the Vice President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden. He is affiliated with the Democratic Party. The Vice President serves as the President of the United States Senate. The President designates much of the Vice President's responsibilities outside those designated by the Constitution. The focus of his career has been social issues both nationally and internationally. He also played a large role in shaping U.S. foreign policy. Next in line is the Department of State and it is lead by Secretary John Kerry. The head of the Department of the Treasury is Secretary Jack Lew. Leading the Department of Defense is Secretary Chuck Hagel. Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. is in charge of the Department of Justice. The Department of the Interior is lead by Secretary Sally Jewell. The Department of Agriculture is lead by Secretary Thomas J. Vilsack. Secretary Penny Pritzker is the leader of the Department of Commerce. The Department of Labor is lead by Secretary Thomas E. Perez. Followed by the Department of Health and Human Services lead by Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell. The Department of Housing and Urban Development is lead by Secretary Julián Castro. Leading the Department of Transportation is Secretary Anthony Foxx. The Department of Energy leader is Secretary Ernest Moniz. Secretary Anne Duncan is in charge of the Department of Education. The Department of Veterans Affairs is lead by Secretary Robert McDonald. The final member of the Cabinet in succession from the President is Secretary Jeh Johnson who runs the Department of Homeland Security (Administration, n.d. Cabinet).
