The Taking of Human Rights

Only a profound amazement: how can one hit a man without anger?" (Survival in Auschwitz 16). He was shocked at how the Nazi soldiers could so easily abuse them, denying their basic human right of protection from torture (Universal Declaration of Human Rights or UDHR 1). In the meantime, the other nations simply let it happen, when they should have helped as soon as possible. By the end of 1948, "the Universal Declaration of Human Rights [was] proclaimed by the United Nations in 1948", this came far too late for those 6,000,000 Jews whose lives had been taken from them in cold blood. In this case the world waited far too long to help the Jewish population. They must act upon their responsibility to act to protect other people's human rights. .
Instead of disregarding the situation, the world should take action to stop the negligence towards the intellectually disabled peoples' human rights. In Australia, many girls are forced into sterilization because of their disabilities (Senators Propose Tighter Laws 1). They are denied the right that "no human being has the right to act in such a way as to destroy the rights [that they] are entitled to" (Universal Declaration of Human Rights or UDHR 3). Many mentally disabled people have been forced "behind the closed doors of psych wards" where government mental health system workers carry out violent forced 'treatments' against [their] will. Many forced into psychiatry have died at the hands of the system (Fighting Back Against 1). They are denied their right to "live, and to live in freedom and safety" (UDHR 1). A man named Will Hall had a nervous breakdown and was sent to a public health system hospital for two years. There, he "was treated like a disobedient child with a broken brain, punished and controlled, including more than two months in a locked unit. [He] went from being a human being to being a mental patient" (Will Hall's Recovery 1).
