Self-Respect and Respect for Others

In the middle of the night, I scroll carelessly on Twitter through tons of irrelevant posts, but there was one that caught my eye. It states a true fact about today's generation of kids on how teens follow the crowd and ruthless celebrities. I believe the media turned most of us into the most disrespectful, insecure, and immature people. I see it as a disgrace; it makes my heart-ache seeing our generation behave in this manner. There was a time when everyone believed they can be an independent and successful person now everyone wishes they can be like someone else. Song lyrics became angrier, raunchier, and discerning. As I ask myself "Is this role model criteria?" Teens see it as, being someone you aren't is a good thing, and pretending to be someone's friend, exposing others, and discriminating are amusing.
Remember when kids use to sit around the campfire and sing "Kumbaya"? Now they refuse to spend quality time together if there isn't Wi-Fi. Now rappers and singers such as; Chris Brown, Chief Keef, Young Thug, Nicki Minaj, and August Alsina are being praised for their lyrics which are unsuitable for young children. We are influenced on terms that aren't even real words which is pathetic. Lyrics are mostly about money, fame, alcohol, or drug use. I believe as teens we should appreciate the real role models who influenced us. Teens of my generation have the tendency to follow the crowd and be someone they aren't. For example, young adults catfish each other on social networking site; a catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they're not by creating false identities on social media. These perpetrators particularly pursue deceptive romanced for personal gain. This is one of the main of many growing issues on social media today. Also, young people use social media as a popularity contest instead of connecting with others. A person is considered implausible if they have less than a certain amount of followers as well as likes and/or favorites on posts.
