Jordan Baker simulates the theme carelessness in this book many times. Miss Backer although is friends with Nick and Daisy is very careless. Jordan simulates many themes in the book The Great Gatsby but the theme that is presented the most is carelessness.
Jordan simulates carelessness when she drives a car. In the book Miss Baker is coming home from a party with Nick in a car when Nick says "You"re a rotten driver," "Either you ought to be more careful or you oughtn't to drive at all. Then she says, "I"m Careful," "Well, other people are." This shows that she is careless because if she knew she was a careless driver she would work on it, or just not drive at all. This also shows that she is careless because she does not care how she affects her society. That is just one of the ways that Jordan Baker simulates carelessness.
Miss Baker shows carelessness when she goes to all of Gatsby's parties. The majority of the people that go to Gatsby's parties are not even invited so there for she does not know what the activities that are going on are. She demonstrates this in the book with this quote. "You must know Gatsby." This is when she is talking to Nick at the Buchanan's house and she finds out that Nick does not know who Gatsby is. This shows that if Nick does not know Gatsby and he is his neighbor then how all of the people who go to the parties know him.
Jordan Baker also demonstrates this theme by being included in the scandal of Gatsby and Daisy. This is careless because Gatsby and Daisy need to work that out on there own, and not bring other people in. Also Jordan does not need to get involved because in my eyes cheating on someone is a crime and everybody who has something to do with it should be penalized. Jordan being involved with Gatsby and Daisy is shown when Gatsby is at launch with Nick and he says. "I happened to find out that you"re taking Miss Baker to tea." Then Nick responds.
