The Growth Mindset

How a person thinks from childhood on can drastically alter their future. The right mindset may not always be tangible but it is a key factor to success. Everyone will go through failures in their lives, having the right attitude and maintaining a positive mindset through adversity is what will make or break you. A fixed mindset is the idea that people believe their basic qualities, like their cleverness or capability is set in stone, unchangeable. A growth mindset is the idea that people believe their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. A growth mindset is a key factor to becoming a better student, athlete, worker, and in general a better person. This mindset will lead you to achieve goals, and gain abilities which previously were thought to be unattainable. .
Many famous men and women in life have battled through adversity and come out triumphant. Men like Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, and Thomas Edison were once told they were stupid, unoriginal, and would never make it. If these men did not have a growth mindset, and did not adapt to overcome calamity the world may not have Disney movies, the iPhone, or even a light bulb. However, one of the best examples of someone using a growth mindset and overcoming hardship is the story of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. While almost every American has read something of Dr. Seuss, he was not always a worldwide name. Dr. Seuss' first book, "And to Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street," was rejected 38 times, before the author was published (Jones). Rejection, in my opinion is one of the hardest obstacles for someone to face. Rejection can destroy self-esteem, and lead someone to believe they are simply not good enough. Rebounding from rejection is quite difficult. In order to bounce back you must have the correct mind set. Dealing with any set back takes extreme courage and perseverance, while bouncing back from adversity is a daunting task and extremely demanding on the mind and heart it is necessary for future comebacks.
