A Comparison between Augustus Waters and Romeo Montague

However, sometimes a person might meet someone who has a similar appearance and has had experiences which resemble his or her own. In the same way, books from different countries and eras may have similar protagonists. Such is in the case in John Green's well-known novel, The Fault In our Stars and in the critically acclaimed play Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare. In the two stories, Augustus Waters and Romeo Montague possess some similarities, as is demonstrated distinctly in their physical qualities, their reactions when they meet their lovers for the first time, and their tragic fate in the end of their respective stories.
Physical qualities are a significant part of distinguishing one person from another. However, many people still have similarities in physicality. Comparing with two stories, both Augustus Waters and Romeo Montague are described as young boys. On page 9 in The Fault In Our Stars, when Hazel Grace, a sixteen-year-old girl, meets Augustus Waters in the cancer support group for the first time, she illustrates that Augustus looks her age, or maybe a year older (Green, 9). Therefore, it can easily be inferred that Augustus is around seventeen years old, which is a considerably young age. Similarly, Romeo is also portrayed as a young boy. In Act 1, scene 5, from line 65 to line 68, Capulet speaks to Tybalt, "Content thee, gentle coz, let him alone, He bears him like a portly gentleman; And, to say truth, Verona brags of him. To be a virtuous and well-govern'd youth" (1.5, 65- 68). Capulet uses "well-govern'd youth" to label Romeo, form the word "youth", it is simply to presume that Romeo is a young man who is likely to around fifteen to twenty years old. Except for their youth, both Augustus Waters and Romeo Montague also possess good looks. Hazel Grace describes that Augustus Waters is with mahogany hair, straight and short and he is extremely "hot" (Green, 9).
