Effective Leadership at Xerox

 

             Burns is the chief executive officer and chairperson of Xerox. Xerox is the number one enterprise for document management and business process in the world, with sales of almost $23 billion. Burns first joined Xerox as a mechanical engineering intern in 1980. At that time, Xerox was the leading company in the global photocopying market. As the company was securing its place in digital document technologies, Burns was assuming roles in planning and product development. For several years, Burns led numerous business teams including Xerox's color business (Caliendo, 2010). In the year 2000, Ursula Burns became the senior vice president heading the supply and manufacturing chain operations. Ursula Burns and the then CEO, Anne Mulcahy, worked hand in hand in the restructuring of Xerox hence its emergence as a leading company in color technology and document services. Because of her achievements, Burns got a promotion to the president's position in April 2007. This expanded her leadership to include the company's human resources, IT organization, global accounts, corporate marketing, and corporate strategy. At the same time, Burns was among those elected as the company's Board of Directors (Bryant, 2010). .
             In July 2009, Ursula Burns was made the CEO and went ahead to make the largest acquisition ever made in Xerox. The acquisition involved the buying of Affiliated Computer Services that amounted to $6.4 billion. In May 2010, she became the company's chairperson leading more than 140,000 individuals of Xerox that serve customers in many countries around the world. Basing on the company's legacy of innovation, Xerox is enabling workplaces to large global enterprises hence simplifying the way work is done so that people can put the required focus on the company's core business (Solman, 2014). The goal of Burns at Xerox is to develop a continuous chain of improved services and goods. These include more powerful imaging and copying machines and to offer excellent and professional customer service support.
