Food is one of the most fundamental aspects of life - you cannot live without it. Some are fighting everyday to feed themselves or a family one decent meal a day, when others are granted the opportunity to eat whatever and whenever they desire. Many 3rd world countries are fighting to keep food production from diminishing, and many are hoping to find a solution to achieving food security. Genetically modified foods may be the solution to solving worldwide food scarcity that hinders all over the world. Genetically modified foods are foods composed of organisms in which the genetic material has a modified DNA to achieve a desired trait. To enhance a desired trait in an organism genetic engineering is a set of technologies used to alter the genetic makeup of cells, using the transferring of genes. Genetic engineering can be used to produce traits that can enhance the nutritional value of plant crops. We no longer have to rely on agriculture for survival and the production of most foods, which will greatly save money in farming and the food production process. With the chase to keep up food production with the rapid growing population and the diminishing farmland, genetically modified foods may be the only solution to these problems we are facing.
One of the most debated topics out there right now addressing genetically modified foods are whether the are "safe " or not. Genetically modified foods have been in our food supply for over 20 years and many experiments that have been done have shown to conclude that genetically modified foods pose no risks to humans. The Food and Drug administration (FDA) using a science-based method, test and regulate food and ingredients coming from genetically engineered food in ensure the safety of the food before opening it up to public consumption. "The FDA regulates food from GE crops in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency " (For Consumers).
