             During the 130's the Romans conquered Italian tribes and took control of their land. The land was given to the wealthy citizens who rented or sold it at their own desire. The riches were become richer especially since the number of slaves multiplied. The wealthy were able to profit significantly on the number of slaves they attained who they used for to work on their lands instead of the poor. The poor were ejected from their land and just roaming the streets with no motivation not even to join the military or produce more children. The slaves also served in the military against their will to fight countless wars. However Tiberius Gracchus, a plebian tribune, set forth to gradually correct all the abuse going on in Rome. .
             Tiberius began with correcting the abuse to the poor citizens of Rome. He announced that no citizen and senate should hold over 500 jugera of land. The surplus land was to be divided amongst the poor and homeless in Rome. The poor would once again have land and a small amount of redistributed wealth making them eligible for taxation and military service. The senate did not approve and fought hard to execute Tiberius laws. .
