Prostitution Legalization in China

The latest data and analysis from UNAIDS estimated that there were 127,000 female sex workers and their clients living with HIV in China. Sexual transmission, which ranks next to needle sharing, is one of the main sources of HIV. Females from the rural side of China are considered as one of the most vulnerable groups in the job markets and the social competition. The report from UNAIDS also shows that 63% percent of sex workers are involved out of economic pressure and 92% of them are below tertiary education level. People usually tend to blame the sex workers for the unprotected sex, while in reality it is their clients who refuse to use condoms. The rate of consistent condom use with clients in last three month is only 43% and the reason for non-consistent condom use of client refusal is 77.2%. Most of them are very scared of being infected with HIV. However the agencies of prostitution minimize both physical and emotional health cost and maximizes the profits. Also the using of condoms can also be a risky proof when there is a spot check for outlaw prostitution. The lack of legalized organization results in the lack of safety precaution and protection of those women. If prostitution could be legalized, those commercial sexual acts can be restricted into a healthy way. The government should set up a registration for the sex workers and provide physical examinations for them periodically, which should be a big help to reduce the rate of prevalence of STDs and HIV.
Those sex workers lost their legal rights because of the illegality of their jobs. As the same reason above, the female workers become exploited labors under those agencies that cramp out the profit from the money earn by those women. From the report from UNAIDS, the sex workers are abused by various certain extents. The rate of client drunkenness is 40%; the rate of verbal violence is 63.5%; the rate of physical violence is 32.
