The Influence of My Parents

I do that a lot where there are people who would hurt me at school and I would do nothing to them I would just walk away and if they ever talked to me I would talk to them too without showing them that I didn't like the way they treated me. That got "stuck" with me in my life because I still do it today.
There were many people that I got influenced by in bad ways but one person that I think influenced me the most was my father he lived with me so a big part of his influences got stuck with me. Like for instance the way he would get mad at the smallest things that I did and start yelling at me like crazy got me scared. His way of communicating was wrong because he would not let anyone talk back and let them explain my father was always right and no one would change that. In the book (pg.73) it talks about how appraisals could be very different based on the person that gives you that appraisal like it has to be someone close to you someone that you have trusted for a long time, for example parents because they have been around us for a long time they raised us and you've put in your head that your parents know it all about you and about everything. I would always listen to my dad and what he said, but his way of communicating with me made me scared of lots of other things. Like if they yell at you they are correct I lived by that for a long time but I grew out of it and began to stop believing that. My dad would always lower my self-esteem like for example, saying that I wasn't as smart as my older brother and that I'm dumb. It made me feel really bad and it really didn't help with my grades at school. Also when I thought I did a great job because I got an award at school but my dad didn't really care because it wasn't a scholarship I was really affected by that so what I would do was not invite my parents to award ceremonies because I would get the same exact reaction in my dad.
