The Investment Climate Statement (2013) by the US Department of State acknowledges that the UK has one of the most stable political systems in the world; therefore, it is a place that is appealing to do businesses and investment. Although the possible Scottish independence threatened the political system not too long ago, there is no major political movement in the UK at the moment that threatens the stability that would influence the Smartphone industry in the UK.
Economic.
The international economic comparisons such as the GDP and the national such as economic growth, both of them affect the smartphone market by the power of consumption level, consumer price index (CPI) and the market demand. According to BBC news (2014), the UK economy in 2014 has grown 3.1% compared to the second quarter of 2013. This figure demonstrates that consumer spending increases when GDP increases because consumers are willing to purchase during the time of progressive economy. And this has significant impact on the Smartphone industry because the industry is recognized for its fast-changing trend and competitiveness, which means that it continuously produces numerous new products to open consumers wallets.
Social .
Increasing innovation in the Smartphone industry has largely been influenced by to adapt the changing social trends. Monthathip, Panos and Catherine(2009, p.2) stated that the mobile has shifted from being a technological object to a key social object as communication with others. As one can see from this, Smartphones have become more than a phone. Furthermore, a Smartphone not only has power to affect the social network of people, but also has increasingly become a part of lifestyle of many people. In the UK society, when deciding which Smartphone to buy, the British consumers are more focused on the appearance of the product than other features, which could be explained by their lifestyle trends (Awasthi, 2012).
