Alvin York

The topic of my review was the World War I hero Alvin C. I think however my reasoning may be different from other, but we will get into that later. I think David D. Lee did an excellent job of writing this book. From the knowledge I have, I think he portrayed Alvin about as accurately as anyone could. Lee did a good job of evenly dividing the time in the book to the varying difference in York's life. One thing, I believe, will make this assignment tougher is the fact it is a pure biography. I think this will limit my capability to answer some of the questions, but I will do my best. The biography, as most, went in chronological order and focused more from 1916 on. .
The thesis would be something to the affect of Alvin being a great person after religion entered his life. No matter what, even if it contradicted his religion, Alvin still put all of his heart into it and gave the best shot he could. It was tough to figure the thesis out because they were just throwing the facts on the table. The point of view was a third person telling the story about York, but also took pieces and information from York's own personal diary. That is why I have both of those materials cited. They were looped into each other and I also used both for more information. One thing I believe is that the author definitely favored York when portraying him in the book. Granted he made some mistakes in his life, but we were somewhat directed away from that area. The main focus of the book is all the good that he did during and after the war. That is why he is referred to as an American Hero. This is where I believe I differ from most people on the greatness of Alvin York. I think what he did in the war was absolutely amazing and quite impressive, but is not the core issue for me. I am fairly religious, and to go through what he went through, to be so loyal to my religion, for me, would be trying if not impossible.
