Imagine that there was a law that allowed helpless citizens to use self defense against someone who is attacking them. But you don't have to imagine that because it already exists. The law is called "Stand Your Ground." What if someone is attacking and you couldn't defend yourself because it is against the law? What would you do? 22 states have Stand Your Ground laws. The Stand Your Ground Law is here to protect citizens. The National Rifle Association will fight any effort to undermine the right to self defense of law-abiding Americans" (Sullivan J.). Stand Your Ground should exist because we need equal rights to fight, when cops are always around, and to protect loved ones with self defense.
The protection of loved ones and self defense is a reason why stand your ground law exists. America wants to protect their citizens. "We will continue to defend the right of every law abiding Americans regardless of race, color, and creed, to defend themselves and another (Chris Cox). Having stand your ground is to protect your loved ones. This law affects you. If this law does not exist then you can't protect yourself. Stand your ground laws should exist because you want to protect your loved ones, but you should also know cops aren't always around to protect you.
Cops aren't always around to protect citizens. Cops have specific times they go around the neighborhood, and you can be attacked when they are not there. Having Stand Your Ground laws is to protect you when cops come late or not at all. If someone is attacking you and you can't call the cops, you should able to fight for yourself (Martin S. etc.). Most people would call the police but the time in between from when you call the police and the time they actually get to you can be long or short. You protect yourself as much as you need to until the cops get there. That is why Stand Your Ground laws should exist because cops aren't always around to protect you and for you to have an equal fight.
