The Hobbit - The Leadership of Bilbo

 

             We must away, ere break of day, To win our harps and gold from him!"" (Tolkien, 16). This was Thorin's beautiful hum and a real intention of this song, which all of the people have to search for their truly self and enhance to be a better person. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien was mainly about the hobbit and the dwarves' adventure. Their aim was to snitch gold from the dragon and the main character, Bilbo, showed his courage while facing some great obstacles or challenges. He grows very much during the adventures. At the beginning of the story, he started as a young hobbit with low self-esteem and courage, then he developed his character and became a mature courageous hobbit with strong personality. To begin with, Bilbo made a big alteration with his courage. At the start of a story, this young hobbit said that he hate adventures and he seemed nervous. When Gandalf came to his cave and persuaded him to participate in the adventure, Bilbo refused flatly. "We are plain quiet folk and have no use of adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner! I can't think what anybody sees in them! "(Tolkien, 6). .
             However, with the dwarves and Gandalf's strong argument, Bilbo had to surrender. As the story went on, Bilbo grew his courage and adventuresomeness. As many people know, even if people are in a harsh or horrible situation, it is very easy to overcome and get rid of the fear if the situation happened in so many times. The circumstance then becomes familiar and it is not difficult to predict what will happen next. What happened to Bilbo was the same thing. He already experienced dangerous situations numerous times, such as fighting with the goblins, standing up to Gollum and escaping from the spiders or dangerous palace. Therefore, he became case hardened from the adventures and became a courageous mature hobbit. The evidence of this was reflected when this honest novice hobbit was dealing with his opponent by using Arkenstone.
