It has been ten years since this incident occurred. Ten years is a long time but, I still haven't been able to overcome my emotions. I was only 10 years old then. My mother was not well; she was suffering from cancer. I used to go to the hospital everyday to visit her. One such day my father dropped me off at the hospital and went away as he had an important meeting. I went to my mother's ward but surprisingly she was not in her room. I panicked. I thought I was lost in the hospital .My legs started trembling. The very thought of getting lost in that gloomy place gave me goosebumps. But finally; I gathered courage and went to the nurse's room. My mother's nurse was sitting there. I felt relieved and walked straight to her. But alas! my happiness was short-lived. The nurse told me that my mother was in the ICU.I was thunderstruck.
Her words were like a bolt out of blue. The nurse tried to pacify me, but was unable to do so. When I regained my senses, I ran straight to the ICU. On reaching there, I saw a doctor coming out of the room, I ran towards him and asked him about my mother's condition. But the doctor thought that it was not appropriate to tell a ten year old child that her mother was serious. So, he just told me that I didn't need to worry at all and went to call my father. I was outraged by his behavior.
My mother was practically on her deathbed and none was ready to tell me anything just because I was young. But, being a child, I was unable to question the doctor anymore. Through the glass on the door, I saw my mother. She was lying on a bed. Many wires were attached to a machine near her bed. I wanted to break open the door and go inside, but nobody allowed me to enter. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I didn't let them fall down. My mother had always wanted me to be brave and I decided that I would follow her advice. Many hours passed by, but my father didn't reach the hospital. It was six o' clock.
