Pre-World War One Russia

This was due to the various amounts of different religious or ethnic groups living in Russia at the time. There were groups such as the Slavs, Jews, and the Turks living in Russia before World War 1 erupted (Spartacus Educational). Being so diverse and from all over the world and from different backgrounds, there were many minor languages spoken, but Russian, Czech, Ukrainian, and Tartar are the most prominent and well spoken (Spartacus Educational). And in these cultures they had unique beliefs and cultural traditions such as; they would never begin a journey or start an important task on a Monday because it is believed that it is the worst day of the week and that nothing of that magnitude should be started that day or it is doomed to fail (Russian Culture). Also the government was run by the last emporer to ever rule over Russia, Tsar Nicholas III. Going into the war, Tsar had the support of his whole nation. Everyone rallied behind him to go into battle (World War I). Even though they were dragged into this war because of their allied nations having conflicts with other countries. .
Alliances are usually made as a proactive approach to war, so you know who has your back if you happen to head into a war. Also a country would make alliances with another, possibly more powerful country, for the sake of not having to fight against that country. Pre-World War 1, Russia's alliances consisted of France and the United Kingdom, so they would assist Russia in battle and vice versa. This alliance was called the "Triple Entene ", entene meaning friendship or agreement. The Triple Entene was formed for safety and numbers against the Triple Alliance, which was made up of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. This alliance lasted until 1914 at the start of World War 1, when changes started to be made. At the start of World War I in 1914, all three of the Triple Entente entered it as  allies against the  Central Powers  Germany and  Austria-Hungary (What Were the Reasons for Russia Joining World War 1).
