College Entrance Exams and University Success

Every year, thousands of hundreds students all around the world are taking SAT or ACT tests as a part of their application packets. SAT and ACT are two globally recognized college admission tests that let student show colleges what they know and how well they can apply that knowledge. The higher the score, the higher possibility you get admitted by the top ranked college. Even though those tests are critical for college admission process, they are just one factor among many that colleges use to get to know the candidates better. Therefore, I don't think college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT are a good indicator of university success, because students have much potential to develop; those test scores are only measured how well one prepared for the tests; and, there are many difference between college life and high school life. .
College entrance exams are not a good indicator of university success because students have infinite potential, both positive and negative. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, "The SAT is not designed as an indicator of student achievement, but rather as an aid for predicting how well students will do in college. "(Heller 1). There are too many factors can affect a students performance in college. In 2010, "There are more than 400 colleges that don't require submission of SAT or ACT test scores. "(Heller 1). As FairTest.org says these schools "de-emphasize the use of standardized tests by making admissions decisions about substantial numbers of applicants who recently graduated from U.S. high schools without using the SAT or ACT. " In 2012, as Zhao indicate in her report "SAT, ACT No Longer Required For Admission To 800 U.S. Colleges And Universities. "(1). As we can see the number form 400 doubled in 2 year, more and more colleges and universities no longer required college entrance exams like SAT, ACT. This phenomenon suggested that SAT and ACT tests are not as critical as they did before in admission process, which also backs that SAT and ACT tests are not a good indicator of university success.
