Women and Empowerment

Empowerment means motivating and strengthening an individual or a community, socially, politically and economically. Women have been victimized and ill-treated in the world since many years. They have been denied of their rights, curtailed off all their opportunities and have been subjected to many heartless, cruel, immoral attacks that have left the world stunned. If their rights are being snatched, it is every single human being's duty to ensure a just and a happy life for women, who have been played with- just as an old toy. Women have been given a status in the society which is far inferior to those of men. They have been considered weak and frail, incapable of doing any hard manual work. When women have opposed to this gross injustice, they have been violently suppressed. Many other religious superstitions have also thwarted the rights of women. It has been forgotten that we all are living beings, a wonderful, rare race, and a race with emotions, intellect and ability. Instead- a person's gender has become decisive in their course of life.
All countries today have given all kinds of rights to women. Both men and women have been considered to be equal in the eyes of the law, constitution and the country. But have women gotten away from the shackles of prejudice? Have they been granted a status in the society at par with men? Discrimination on the grounds of sex still exists today. Though the custom of sati and jouhar has become extinct, female infanticide is widely prevalent in India and the world. Women have always been considered unequal to men in humanity. Many countries have rules according to which women should dress themselves and behave. If the rules are violated, the women are severely punished. The Taliban has persecuted such horrific acts of 'punishment' on women that most of them have wilted and lost their spirits. The implementation Shari 'a, has shocked people throughout the world.
