" I am positive that most of us had heard this some point in our lives. It is a statement of the obvious, but the logic behind this is true. It may seem rational to ban guns to prevent people from killing, but it is not the guns that are the problem but the people that are willing to spend their lives in prison just to murder. Banning all guns in the United States would be illogical because it would not lower the amount of crime or the number of deaths.
Banning guns punishes the law-abiding citizens by leaving them defenseless against criminals who obtained their weapons illegally. In Orange County, Indiana, Barry and his brother Terah Frost heard a commotion downstairs in their home at 1am in the morning. Barry went to check the out the scene and later found that the front door was forced open. He grabbed his tools to attempt on fixing the door until he found a man, Jacob Grimes, arm with a knife. Grimes attacked Barry but Terah was able to fire 3 shots into the suspects back. This is one of many occasions where firearms helped protect citizens. .
It would seem rational that banning firearms would lead to less deaths and crimes, but statistics shows the opposite. Prohibiting firearms does not make anything safer because it only disarms guns out of law-abiding hands but does not take guns away from criminals. For example, in chaotic situations like hurricane Katrina and the L.A Riot the cops were nowhere to be found and people were left to fend for themselves. People that were unarmed were easy targets for criminals. Another example, police officers in Ferguson, Missouri told people "If you do not have a gun, get one and get one soon. We will not be able to protect you or your family, " he wrote. "It will be your responsibility to protect them. Our gutless commanders and politicians have neutered us. I'm serious, get a gun, get more than one, and keep one with you at all times" (Lockwell).
