Canada and the War on ISIS

This makes it the richest terrorist group thus far. It is also a very organized terrorist group since they have a solid hierarchy and systems that can be put in effect once "the dust settles on the battle field " (Thompson, Greene and Torre). The ISIS government is "a lot like those of some of the Western countries whose values it rejects " if you take away the democracy and add in a council to consider who should be beheaded " (Thompson, Greene and Torre). This is why it is difficult to shatter ISIS with pure force. .
Thus far, "Canada already has a small group of Special Forces personnel providing advisory to the Iraqi military, in co-operation with the United States and six CF-18 fighters and one mid air refuller two Aurora reconnaissance aircraft, which will provide basic surveillance capacities " (Drexhage). When compared to the French, British and Americans contribution, Canada's effort is "fairly modest " (Drexhage). .
Canada has yet to decide whether or not to take further action and join the Coalition in air strikes and combats or withdrawing the current non-combat troops and jet refullers after 6 months. There is no doubt that Canada's troops are well trained, hence they should take part in maintaining world peace and human rights. On the other hand, it is also questioned whether Canada's troops are as efficient when compared to the US troops who have had more than a decade's experience in the Middle East. In this frame of reference Canada should only provide humanitarian aid and refrain from active involvement. .
Prime Minister (PM) Stephen Harper is determined to be involved in ISIS and declared during a press conference in Ottawa that, "We [Canada] will not stand on the sidelines and watch " (Hume). Harper then acknowledges the fact that it "is a direct threat to this country [Canada] " (Hume) with the reason that ISIS is "a terrorist caliphate not simply slaughtering and threatening to slaughter hundreds of thousands of people " (Hume).
