The Myth and Legend of La Llorona

 

Ever since this incident, stories of hearing La Llorona (translated to weeping woman in English) have been reported near river all over America and Mexico. Children are usually told this story and also told that if they hear La Llorona they will be taken by her. This is supposed to scare children and thus cause them to come home whenever it gets dark outside or else the La Llorona is going to get them. Although this story is usually told to scare children into coming home when dark outside, this story also has a lot more meaning in lessons and morals behind it. Because of this legends many different teaches and morals it is still told today. One of the meanings behind this story explains that being beautiful doesnt make any person better than anyone else. Another moral that is shown in this story is to treat other people the way you would like to be treated/what goes around comes around. And the last main lesson this legend tells is that nothing good comes from anger. For many years now the story of La Llorona has been told to many children by older ones and it is told by these older ones because of the great meanings and morals it holds. These are very important Meanings and morals that all children should be taught when younger so as not to become like Maria also known as the weeping woman. (The Weeping Woman).
             Maria as a little girl was considered, by many, fine looking and some went as far as to say that she was the most beautiful girl in the world. Being told this had brought her to believe that she was the most beautiful girl in the world and thus caused her to have a self-absorbed attitude. As Maria grew older, her beauty increased. And her pride in her beauty grew too. It was also said that she wouldnt even look at other men from her village because she thought that she was too good for them.
