This has created a society that accepts information as the Great Truth, but as Aldous Huxley has demonstrated in his essay, "Propaganda in a Dictatorship," in order to discover the truth in media, one must critique everything that is read, not fall to instinct, and "have a taste for rationality and an interest in facts" (para. 8). Therefore, society must take the responsibility in confirming the authenticity of everything that is distributed through the news in order to prevent the centralization of power and ultimately a misinformed world. .
Barack Obama's speech was an example of an excellent source because it met all standards. It met the first standard because President Obama addressed the nation in his speech that he understood many Americans are afraid and that "these terrorists could pose a growing threat beyond that region – including to the United States" (Obama, 2014). Often times our leaders will attempt to hide information in order to prevent hysteria among the people creating a mask over what is truly happening. However, the President confirmed to the American people that without intervention ISIS could pose a threat to America's safety. President Obama's speech confirmed the second standard because he addressed ISIS as being accountable for the deaths of thousands of Iranians and posing a threat to the United States when he said, "At this moment, the greatest threats come from the Middle East and North Africa, where radical groups exploit grievances for their own gain. And one of those groups is ISIL – which calls itself the 'Islamic State'" (Obama, 2014). By confirming the identity of the group, Obama is holding them accountable for their actions. Obama addressed the third standard in his speech by saying, "In a region that has known so much bloodshed, these terrorists are unique in their brutality.
