             It is asserted that in 2011, the KRG published laws to prevent psychological and physical violence against women; Ramzia Zangana, head of the Erbil based Gender Studies and Information Centre, argues that they have laws against honor killing but the traditions and the culture are barrier for implementation of the laws. (qtd. in "Women's Rights Law No Match for Kurdistan Tradition " 5, 6). It is the contention of Namam Hassan Rasul, director of a women's shelter in Erbil, that some males' thoughts of being a man are related to keeping honor, and to achieve rights of women, we need to change men's mindset. (qtd. in "Women's Rights in Iraqi Kurdistan " 8). The government's improvements, so this argument goes, are opposed and challenged by the society. However, the laws exist, but the issue is in implementing them by the government. In addition, Suzan Aref, head of Women's Empowerment Org, states that they have laws but the KRG do not apply them as necessary and their statistics about women are neglected ("Women's Rights Law No Match for Kurdistan Tradition " 6). Moreover, violence against women is still widespread secretly and sometimes obviously in many regions of Kurdistan and not only physically but also psychologically: some psychological stress on females led them to suicide. (Giles 1). The government has power to stop these acts and protect women more if they have the willingness.
             It has been claimed that there are 50 organizations for women in Kurdistan run by politics and civil society to provide women's rights, shelters, education, and mental and legal support (Naggar 8). As Khanim Lateef, head of Asuda NGO in Sulaimania, states, some NGOs changed 28 laws about women's rights so far ("Women's Rights in Iraqi Kurdistan " 9).
