Patton for my History project because he was a man that stood strong for his country and believed in his men. He was fearless, smart and led the country to many victories in WWI and WWII. He moved up in ranks fast because he had good war strategies and was the first to use mobile tanks in battle. He was a Four Star General. .
General Pattton was born on November 11, 1885 in San Gabriel, California. He grew up in a wealthy military family and lived on a big estate. He was home schooled until he was 11 years old. He always wanted to be a war hero like his father and grandfather.
His legacy and leadership started in 1902 when he was 17 years old, he wrote a letter to the Senator wanting to be in the Virginia Military Institute. The senator told him that he had to take an entrance exam and he passed. General Patton struggled with reading, writing and math but was very good in military drills and uniform appearance so this helped him get recognized. He was recommended to go to West Point Academy. He still struggled with reading and writing but his military drills were so good that he graduated in 1909 as a Cadet Adjutant, which is the second highest post in the Academy. General Patton was also very good in fencing and riding horses, so in 1911 on his first military assignment, the unit he was in entered the first ever Pentathlon event and he made the team. They did so well they went to the 1912 Pentathlon Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden. The pentathlon had 5 events: swimming, riding horses, fencing, running and shooting. He placed 5th out of 30 participants.
General Patton read a lot of military books, this made him know a lot about war plans. He was an expert in war plans and strategies and he used them in WWI and WWII. He was assigned to the first U.S Tank forces during WWI and used mobile tanks as his strategy to win. He was able to use his men to move 350 tanks to the frontlines.
