Acceptance to the National Honor Society

I am extremely honored to be selected by my teachers and other leaders at my Catholic high school for consideration to become a member of the National Honor Society ("NHS"). It pleases me to know that they believe I have met the eligibility requirements and am qualified to be a member of such a prestigious organization. I hope to confirm their belief in my qualifications by addressing in this paper how I uphold the NHS values of academic excellence, leadership, service through volunteerism, and character.
First, I take honors courses at my high school. These courses are more difficult than regular courses. Even so, I had a GPA of 3.90 and 3.93 in the 9th and 10th grades, respectively. I didn't achieve these grades because I have a genius, which I am not, but through dedication and hard work. My parents and grandparents have instilled in me a strong work ethic with an eye toward building toward a successful future life, including contributing something of value to society. My goal is to continue my education in college and beyond, hopefully becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
My leadership skills have been demonstrated through my participation in sports since I was about five years old. At my high school, I was on the baseball and football teams my freshman and sophomore years and have also been a member of ROTC for those years. An example of my leadership in football in my sophomore year is that the coach assigned me the task of calling plays for the defensive team. I am continuing my sports and ROTC activities in my junior and senior years and am also serving as an Ambassador for my high school. I am currently a Sergeant with the ROTC and plan to become a Sergeant-Major my senior year. I also plan to become one of the leaders in the Ambassador group. These activities will continue to help me develop my leadership skills and, along with academics, should prepare me well for college.
