Confused, and scared in a holding cell shackled by chains and enshrouded in heavy unremitting silence. Director Steve McQueen uses his considerable skills to connect us to him. In that period of time African American did not have many choices and options neither but to be owned by slave masters from all over the world they were being sold as slaves in the film 12 years a slave, they worked on plantations cutting sugar canes, and picking out cottons for their masters. .
             The hard labors were forced on them day in day out and which was not easy task psychologically and physically effect as well as the stress and pressure their masters had on them became a competition between each other and hustle pressure they cannot escape of whom would picked out more cottons at the end of the day against their free will. Inhumanly working conditions, hot sun, sick or not, stung on their fingers picking cottons still cannot stopped or even sucked on the figure to ease and make the pain go away, continued working through their pain and fatigues because if they stopped their masters or overseer would slashed them on their back. A constant fear of being beaten by their masters, as away of making them feel inferior beating was a punishment method for anything.
