Personal Response Paper - Parenting

Next time you could always do better! " Also, I was always encouraged to participate in activities that I enjoyed and just to live my childhood. When I was just 7 years old, I learned to ice skate and loved to skate with a passion. Ever since then, my parents have always allowed me to ice skate, and encouraged me to go to the ice-skating rinks ever weekend. Now that I have grown to be a teenager I realized that my parents have raised me in way that allows me to achieve my greatest potential, without having to be strict. All the support, guidance, encouragement and love are how my parents raised me to be their number one child.
Generally speaking the method of development analogy when used correctly is suppose to allow the reader to be able identify striking similarities between two unlike things that are not visible at first. Throughout the article "How to raise a No. 1 child " a weak use of analogy is shown, when comparing a strict parent to a tiger. Initially, Wente first proves the use of the analogy when she says "[t]he way she did it " the strict Chinese Tiger Mother way - has lead to shouting matches on the subway " (1). This analogy is established when the term "tiger mother " is mentioned several times throughout the rest of the article. This analogy implies that Wente is comparing the way a strict parent acts towards their children, to how a tiger acts towards its cubs is over exaggerated. From what I know, tigers are very aggressive and vicious animals that can kill others around them; however, tigers are protective and caring towards their cubs. Thus, the use of this analogy weakens Wente's arguments being the information is not correct. Readers may not understand this analogy, and therefore undermines the message she is trying to convey. .
Upon a closer analysis of Wente's writing, one can argue that there is a mixed tone developed throughout her article. Wente first starts off the article by agreeing to Chua's strict Chinese tiger mother way of parenting that leads to a number one child.
