Sexual harassment is a well-known social problem that commonly happens in the workplace, school, public transportation, and military. It also happens on Internet and electronic communication. As the issue of gender equality has been taken seriously, people were concerned about the problem of sexual harassment. "The congressionally mandated report defines sexual harassment as an unwelcome sexual advance, request for sexual favors or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that can affect a career, job performance or create an abuse workplace " (Simeone). Sexual assault in the military is reaching epidemic proportions, discouraging many women from enlisting, though both men and women are victims of such crimes. .
What a lot of people don't understand is why is it so difficult to get this issue taking care of? "Reality upends their lives. Male colleagues subject them to humiliating initiation rituals and grope their breasts and bottoms. Three soldiers gang rape a female soldier. A commanding officer holds down a woman as he threatens her with a charge of adultery -- which would end her military career and send her to prison -- if she tells anyone " (Rosen). There have been attempts to pass a bill for this issue but it has failed. "For nearly a year, Sen. Gillibrand campaigned all over the country to promote what was commonly called the "military sexual assault bill," arm-twisting senators and publicizing the stories of sexual assault women experienced in the military. The Pentagon, she repeatedly told audiences across the nation, estimated that 26,000 soldiers, mostly women, but also men, had experienced sexual assault in 2012, based on an anonymous survey " (Rosen). The Department of Defense (DoD) has tried to do everything that they possibly can with trying to help fix this issue. "Since 2005, with the support of the armed services, the DoD Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO) has worked to improve awareness of sexual violence within the military, disseminate programs to respond to the needs of victims, and prevent future assaults " (Farris, Schell, Tanielian).
