The NSA's surveillance system consists of tracking phone calls and other internet sources to stop terrorism before it happens. More or less like a spider's web, with intentions to prevent flies from bombing a building. Thanks to the numerous "networks " (not unlike the various facets and sections of a spider's web), threats are detected and thwarted before they can even pose a threat to American society and the country, as a whole. This has left the population a bit unnerved at the thought of information going around, with no real explanation of the need or use of sensitive, private, and personal information. According to their website, the NSA states that they do not store personal information and they do not go through all the information that they have access to (National Security Agency, website accessed 10/01/2014). One important facet to keep in mind concerning the National Security Agency is their government provision. .
Indeed, the NSA works "tirelessly " with other federal provisioned initiatives, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) in order to protect our borders, while investigating and prosecuting any threats to the general welfare we've all grown accustomed to. Since their inception, The NSA has thwarted a myriad of plots and attacks, as mentioned above. Indeed, Gorman asserts that our nation " would have surely entered a myriad of conflicts had it not been for the intervention of federal agencies, such as the National Security Agency " (Gorman, 2013). Gorman further asserts that the information obtained by the NSA is " generally discarded " following their investigation (Gorman, 2013). It can be deducted from these statements that information "unless it is a threat or of detriment to the maintenance of our general welfare is not regarded or utilized in any way, which gives some validity to the NSA's aforementioned statement, which provisions that only those who have something to hide should have anything to fear.
