Kicking the Smoking Habit

 

Only 21 of them participated in the hypnosis method in the end, from which 81% stopped smoking after all three sessions and 48% did not smoke even one year after. From those who attended all three sessions, 58% remained non-smokers after 12 months; from those who attended only two sessions, only 30% remained that way. Overall, 95% of all participants were satisfied with their treatment. From the 9 smokers who did not choose the hypnosis method but others, only 22% were abstinent 12 months later. Compared to the 48% percent one-year-non-smokers of the hypnosis patients, the hypnosis therapy was more than twice as efficient as the other methods. .
             Also acupuncture is very effective for overcoming smoking if it is done properly and with additional educational programs. In their study about the effects of acupuncture alone and in combination with education on smoking cessation and cigarette consumption, Bier, Wilson, Studt and Shakleton discovered in 2002 that "all groups showed significant reductions in smoking and post treatment cigarette consumption, with the combined acupuncture-education group showing the greatest effect from treatment." .
             In my survey, which was distributed among 200 people of all ages, genders and ethnical backgrounds, altogether 35% of the interviewed people tried to overcome smoking by using psychological approaches such as hypnosis and acupuncture. 30% have used medical methods in the form of Nicotine replacing drugs. One popular drug therapy is the Chantix smoking cessation treatment. According to Medical Letter on the CDC & FDA (2006), "Chantix (varenicline) was shown to be effective with a favorable safety profile as an aid to smoking cessation treatment, according to three pivotal studies. Data show that approximately 44% of patients treated with Chantix (1 mg twice a day) quit smoking by the end of the 12-week treatment ()."During a nicotine replacement therapy patients are given pills or sprays, which contain nicotine; the demand for nicotine will be fulfilled without inhaling the harmful smoke of a cigarette.
