Women have changed over the past 40 years. In the political carton "College Tuition Hikes 40 Years. " published by Daryl Cagle on Cagle.com its shows several examples of how women have begun to change. The cartoon is of two women hold signs protesting for what they believe is the economy's problem at the time. One of the women is a hippie she is dressed in heavy clothing covering all of her body and has a ton of peace symbols on her. The sign she holds in her right hand states "Love not War " meaning that she believes in having peace and putting an end to war. The other woman looks extremely preppy and she is very much into fashion. The sign she holds states "Lower Tuition Cost " she feels as if college expenses are overpriced. In the cartoon it shows that the hippie woman is from 1969 and she is protesting against war and does not care about money. The cartoon also shows that the preppy woman is from 2009 and she is protesting against tuition costs and does not care about money.
The Hippie woman is obviously into peace and love. In 1969, war and the U.S. having violence with other countries were common. Women did not want their husbands, brothers, and sons to have to continue to risk their lives to fight in these wars. The woman in the cartoon does not care about money because she feels as if there are more important economic problems happening; such as the men in our country dying and being forced to leave behind their families to help fight and support our country. Watching men that meant so much to the women have unfortunate deaths and life threatening experiences had to be a painful feeling to have to continuously cope with. The women had to deal with tragedies that caused them to want to put an end to nonsense. The woman in the cartoon has no makeup on or sex appealing clothing. Her glasses are on the tip of her nose giving her an older look. She does not care about money because fashion to woman did not use to be a big deal and they did not wear sex appealing clothes.
