The Free Speech Controversy

Of course there are people who can deal with insults easily, but most people have the tendency to always return the comment. In many situations, hate speech is used as an invitation for trouble. In certain places, this is something that many people want to avoid. If you have nothing nice to say, then you shouldn't say anything at all. It's not that people should have the right to express their words; it's that some people don't know to express them the right way. Free speech should be allowed at all places, but it should be censored as well. .
Student ethnic groups are often a good way for students to get together and learn about their origins, but what happens with these groups turn into hate groups. Hate groups have been a part of our communities for as long as anyone can remember. Groups such as "skin heads and the KKK ", still exists till this day. High schools and universities commonly allow African American, Chicano, and other groups of ethnic students to make a club. Schools need to make know what kind of activities and conversations these groups plan. For example and Harvard law school, Austin Bramwell states that the Black Law Student Association quiets black students instead of help them speak out. "Given that groups like BLSA Reinforce the assumption that African-Americans speak univocally, an administration serious about encouraging African-Americans to speak up would withdraw its imprimatur from BLSA and all other ethnic student groups". African American students feel as if they can't speak out their opinions if they are not in an ethnic group. This could cause student to feel as if other race groups in the school are superior to blacks. If they can't even feel comfortable in university they attend, how are they supposed to focus on their education? Schools need to be on alert before problems like these before they get out of control. Schools are already having trouble increasing their student populations because of economic struggles and loosing students because other student's comments or opinions it the last thing they want.
