The Red Cross and American Aid

             Many programs or smaller organizations have now since branched off of the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross has sponsored any first aid training programs that want to exist, and organized the Life Guards organization. The Life Guards were initially known as the Life Savings Corporation. They are workers that patrol and observe water parks, beaches, or even community pools, saving lives if necessary. This organization was founded in 1982 (ARCVLSC). During the holiday season, the American Red Cross organizes fund raisers such as the Christmas Seals sale, to help the poor, sick, or needy at such joyful times. The Christmas Seals sale still runs every year as of today; the fundraiser is an immense source of money for tuberculosis research and studies (The American Red Cross). The American Red Cross also sponsors and provides money for an HIV/AIDS protection program. This program's main objective is to educate and inform citizens on the harmful effects HIV or Aids will have on their lives, and even more so themselves. .
             Another program put together by the American Red Cross was the tissue-donating program. This program started at a more local level around 1982. The American Red Cross collects just about one fourth of the United States' tissue, meaning bodily organs. They had collected over 38,000 donations of tissue by 1994 and within just one year, the American Red Cross had nineteen tissue-donating centers spread out in the United States. The American Red Cross collects blood also. They are the main provider of blood to the sick or wounded in the United States and have been for more than fifty years.
