Furthermore, the morals she has also got the best of her as being exposed to the ways of her autistic dad all the time, she interpreted that that is how it is supposed to be. She is only seven and already following her dad in his footsteps which is not really the best, because her dad is almost self-sacrificing. She has already starting putting others before her way too much and due to having a father who is developmentally disabled, she has not been taught where to draw the line. Being thoughtful about others is a wonderful attribute to possess, but one should be taught to limit it when in a circumstance, his/ her own development is being negatively impacted. Just like in this case, Lucy did not want to read the word 'difficult' only because her father was not able to read it. Lucy has just turned seven so this is only the beginning. Countless situations like such will occur and one after another, will add to the negative effect on Lucy. According to Gilligan's theory, Lucy is in the post-conventional level as she focuses on both, herself and her father. She believed what both of them wanted the most was being together and therefore, taking care of the need of both individuals, she made effort to fulfill them. However, since she is only seven, she did what she thought was right and not necessarily, right in the eye of society (for example, frequently lying and giving more importance to being with her father than telling the truth). This was also a consequence of the way she was brought up and the impact her father had on her as a result of his disability. On the other hand, according to Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development, Sam is still stuck in the conventional level and that too, early in the level, somewhere in stage 3. This is because of his disability as autism restricts one from thinking much about others and mainly makes him/her focus on himself/herself. It is not because they are selfish or this statement is not in attempt to portray them as a bad individual, it is just that their disability is such, there are not left with much of a choice.
